Secret Life of Plants

So, I just watched a movie called the Secret Life of Plants.
They showed plants hooked up to some device that could measure their impluse's
and from that device it was hooked up to a synthesizer and created music from the plants themselfs...Can anyone tell how this is done? I would like to do that with some of my house plants to see what kind of sounds they can create?

I'd expect they measured the conductivity (like a lie-detector does), being affected by water transportation to the leaf surfaces.
Then they'd use this resistance change to effect a pitch change in an oscillator to make the effect more "movie-friendly".
