You don't need the switch to test it. Just jump those two nodes.

ok and everything else I said was right? some how :p

I'm not sure because I'm not certain that you understand what circuit ground means.

Chris

Ground for capacitor

6:I have a wire from pin 1 the (ground) going to the pin 5 area (not hooked to it)
7:I have C1 and C2 going to that ground wire

Q1 Mosfet
8: D going to negative of the LED’S
9:G with R4 10ohm resistor
10:I have another wire from pin 1 ground and it goes to the S The wire going to the grounds for the caps are only hooked together at the pin 1 ground but I don’t have the S and caps on same wires
Power

If you ground the Drain of the FET do the LEDs light?

Chris

Tried it but it still didn't flash, just stayed on. Think I'm going redo this whole thing and make it look more organized/neat

It's a test of the LED circuit only. That's what supposed to happen. It indicates that the 555is not gating the FET. Are you sure that the FET is wired correctly?

Chris

EDIT: Please post a photo of your work.

Yep, I made sure of it and even put color marks on tips of the FETS pins make sure I hook them to the right parts. Used this for help with it http://www.vishay.com/docs/91307/sihld014.pdf
Is the FET very heat sensitive? Also Ill post photo soon as I can find my camera usb

All semiconductors are heat sensitive. You can test the FET by disconnecting R4 from U1-pin 3 and connecting it to the + side of your battery. If the LEDs turn on then the FET is OK.

Chris

EDIT: Before doing the above test connect a resistor from the gate to ground. . Any value from 100R to 1M will suffice.

Think its working but I'm not to worried about it. I got two of them when I got my LED's. But I've got few other questions.
Does the diode go to pin 7 or does it hook to R1 1k resistor and the resistor hooks to pin 7 of u1/555 timer. Right now I have the diode hooked to pin 7 and the resistor hooked to the diode

Other question is for the C1 1u, (+) R5 10k and R2 1M. Do they all just hook to pin 6 or is there certain way they need hook to each other

Keep in mind that when wires cross on a schematic they're not connected if there's no dot at the crossing junction.

Everywhere I went for another diode D1 1n4002 I couldn't find it or the alternate 1n914. Place I get all my parts did a cross reference on their computer and gave me one called NTE116 the pack it came in says the following things on it
Prv-600v Max
IFsm-30A Max
IF-1A Max
VF-1.1V@A

Will this work?

I got the 1st one fixed and remade it make it look more better and it works as well. It running at 1.3-1.2 volts on my voltage meter when it flashes. Recall asking to see photo of my work so posted them below. Not best in the world but best I've done so far.

I'm glad that you got it working and thanks for the pix. I don't understand where you're measuring 1.2 - 1.3V though. Since the circuit's time constants are very brief the only point in this circuit that can be measured reliably with a DVM is between ground and the supply rail.

I just put my meter where I would have put my Leds and it told me that and drops down to like 0.23 then back to the 1.3 volts/1.2 jumps around between them numbers
