Im using 4 D's right now for power. And I need to replace R5 with a 1/4w 120k resistor? And should I keep the other resistors in parallel still with R3?

Yes, replace R5 with a 120K @ 1/4W. I would recommend unsoldering one end of the 2nd 5R resistor across R3 and test for brightness. Then while it's flashing you can reconnect the disconnected end with finger pressure and see if it makes enough improvement in brightness to warrant the increased current drain on the battery.

I can only find a 100k one will this work?

Don't you have a Radio Shack near you? Resistors are one of the few things they still stock in their stores. If you're going to experiment with electronics you want to keep a boat load of values on hand. Buy them in an assortment pack.

120K will yield a pulse width of 90mS. 100K will give you a Pulse width of 80mS. 150K will produce a 110mS pulse width.

Your call.

I got 2 radio shacks in my town but they only had up to 100k, I'll give it a try I just asked make sure it wouldn't screw anything up lol

RS doesn't stock the resistor assortment pack any longer?

FYI: A 100K wired in series with 20K = 120K. In short series wired resistors add or ..
Rseries = Ra + Rb + Rc ....etc. Capice?

Chris

Edit: 1/8W resistors will work anywhere in your circuit except for R3. I spec'd 1/4W resistors because I thought they are more common than 1/8W but that may not be true any longer.

Not likely the 555. It's pretty hard to kill. More likely you shorted something else or somehow disturbed something when you changed R5. I'd be very surprised to find that the 555 failed. Especially for no reason; unless your soldering skills are more akin to the heat produced by welding.

I got it fixed, One of my wires was hooked by its plastic but the wire part wasn't any more. Its little more brighter now with the flashing

Did you reconnect the second 5R resistor across R3 yet?

So, are you satisfied? Are Q1, R3 (A&B) or the LEDs getting hot or just warm.?

Yes I am thanks. The cap's and timmer feels little warm but nothing to bad I can touch them. Every thing else is ok and the lights are cold

That's weird. I wouldn't expect the 555 or the caps to get significantly warm. Especially the caps.

When you mount it on the bike please post some pix.

Good luck,
Chris

Edit: I just noticed what you did with your avatar. Nice bit of photo editing!

I don't think I'm going get around to it anytime soon. Its winter and I really don't ride or work on my bike that much this time of the year. But when I do, I'm going put rack on my bike and put the lights on it. But I'm bit on the negative side of doing this. Because these lights we made are not water proof. Also If you care take look the photos below are how I have my lights right now on my bike. Also wish I could take credit for the avatar stuff but I didn't make it. I just re-sized it and used it. But I could make that stuff I just get in to my beh moods

Thanks for the photos. That's a boat load of lights. By the way the issue of water resistance is why I bought a $15.00 Blackburn (Stop Sign model) when I decided to make brake lights from it.

Glad to help with your new project. This is what we do here. ;)

My front warning lights are made by blackburn as well. Name of the lights are blackburn voyager 2.0 and I got so many because I'm a emergency responder. I don't ride to emergencies. They just for if I came across one when Im on my bike. I only use one on front and back when Im just riding around.

Anyway I like make something like this http://www.feldfire.com/assets/images/products/whelen/whelen slmm.jpg using 5mm leds I found this on ebay and looks to be fair http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-pcs-5mm-round-Blue-LED-superbright-bulb-lamp-light-/180948581043 Same ideal about this light we made already with the 555 timer but with more volts.Hard tell how many volts I'll be using because when my car is off a car battery is 12.4 volts running about 14 volts...and should I start a whole new post for this?

A long time ago I used to work for the fire brigade in my city.

At one stage they used to have a bicycle as one of their official vehicles. It was unofficially referred to as "Fremantle first bicycle"

It was used during the era of steam trains when burning coal would occasionally fall from a train and cause problems. There was a rail bridge over a river and the only way to get to a common point where the problem occurred was by bicycle and on foot. So they would turn out a junior firefighter on the bike with a bucket of water.

The story is told more formally here.

More recently I was told a story by an officer who turned out on foot one dark and stormy night when all the appliances were busy attending alarm calls. He ran up the road from the main station to the hospital to respond to a fire alarm. They were somewhat bemused to have a single person huffing and puffing rather than several appliances and about 12 firefighters that was the normal response (it was a false alarm).
