Vista 20p installation problem

I have the panel set up on a table for testing before installing it in
my home. I installed a window contact (Ademco PR-20451) to zone 2 with
(2k resistor in series) and configured as follows.
Zone type: Perimeter
Partition: 1
Report Code: 01-00
Hardwire Type: Normally closed

I get a fault on this zone all the time regardless of contact being
open or close. I remove the resistor and everything works fine! What am
I doing wrong here?

I have zone 3 and 11 zone doubled.
Zone 3 (3k resistor in series)
zone 11 (6.2k resistor in series)
Do these resistors act as the EOLR besides being used by the panel for
zone identification?

just for kicks I programed a window contact as zone type 9 for fire to
see how the system would react. my keypads beep but the siren does NOT
go off. Do I need to do anything to make the siren activate for fire
alarms? would it be a steady alarm tone? I am using ademco Wave2.

Many thanks in advance!!!

Don't set anything for report codes unless you want the panel to transmit a
signal over the phone line. When you set "normally closed" you're telling
the panel to ignore end-of-lines.

You've no doubt told the panel these zones are "normally closed" as well.

I'd suggest you go back and read the manual. All the answers to your
questions are in there.

OK I set the panel for "EOL" and the contact with 2k resistor in series
everything seems to work fine. When I short the loop or open the loop
or open the contact, the keypad says fault in all cases. Do I expect
the panel to say something like "short" or "open"?

No for the zone double I set the panel to zone double. The was pretty
straight forward. :)

Unfortunately the manual is designed for a first time installer and
assumes some prior knowledge. I can't seem to find why the fire does
not activate siren.

Nope. It's doing what it's supposed to do.

That's pretty much the case across the board with alarm manuals. Give me a
call Sunday afternoon if you like and I'll try to walk you through it. I'll
be out flying in the morning; hope to be back by about 1:30pm.

You're learnin'... :))

Check your siren time outs and make sure you're getting voltage at the siren
terminals. In all cases a "fire" will enable sounder.

And if Rojas didn't send you a programming CD you'd still think a loop
was something from weaving class.

Yeah you'll be out flying alright. Flying down the highway to Kip's Big
Boy for the all you can eat brunch special.

Excuse me, who are you calling white? I'm PINK!

I programmed zone-1 as "Fire" but when I trip the zone the buzzers on
the
keypads go off and it says "fire trouble" but the Siren does not go
off. The
siren does work for other zones but not with zone-1. Fire siren Time
outs is
set to default. What's the problem?

If I was to add more sirens can I put 2 or 3 sirens in parallel?

Thanks!

Short zone #1 for alarm, open zone #1 for trouble.

You either have the resistor in the wrong place or see AJ's comment on how to test fire zone.

Yes you can wire more than 1 siren in parallel...provided they don't draw more current than the panel can provide in alarm.

Most fire alarm devices are normally open. The panel has to see the end of
line for a "normal" condition. Opening the circuit will cause the system to
fault. Shorting the circuit *across* the end of line will cause it to go
into alarm... The manual explains this.

Hmmmm .... Hey gas bag, you really should try to stay away from that
effluvial causing food.

Anyway, hope your mooring lines don't snag.
