Transformer 13.5v X 2 issue

Hii guys,
I have a sound system.It worked only for 8 months.You can guess where it was made :D .
Lets look into the issue.
There was no power light.So my first guess was the power supply , so i checked the input & output of transformer.
The input was fine (230v) but the output was (1v).So i think the transformer is the culprit.
This transformer is 13.5-0-13.5 /2.5A .You can look into the image.
I tried different online & offline shops to get a replace but the only transformer that i could get close to was 12-0-12 2A & 18-0-18 2A
Will going with 18-0-18 2A do fine or will it create a heating issue? I am just a hobbyist so i am not sure.

Will going with 18-0-18 2A do fine or will it create a heating issue?

It will produce too much voltage that will damage components in the rest of the system

You mite get away with the 12-0-12 one but you need higher current, 2A isn't enough considering the original
one was 2.5A and probably died by being run to its limit

yeah, cuz it will have been custom made for that gear

so i checked the input & output of transformer.

Ohhh meant to comment

it's probably the input winding of the transformer ( the primary) that has failed

you would only be measuring the voltage on the terminals, but if you disconnected from power
and measured the resistance of the primary, you will likely find that it is open circuit

MOST transformers these days have a thermal fuse hidden under the plastic tape
and you will most probably find it has blown



those with electronics skills can get to the thermal fuse and replace it and have a working transformer again

Yup its open circuit..Didn't knew about thermal fuse.Thanks for the info Davenn...I am not a pro in soldering :D so will try to replace the transformer by 12-0-12 3A.
