good reason? That was surely insane! And Edison was an obsessive-compulsive
who some also think was manic-depressive. And everyone here has mentioned,
including yourself, that Tesla was cookoo, but I think his place in the
history of geniuses is gaurenteed. After all, he's responsible for at leas
alternating current.

My $1.02. Keep the change. =)

Tesla's place in history is guaranteed by the unit named for him,
the Tesla, a unit of flux density in which MRI machines are calibrated.
I read it is one Weber per square meter. Now if I could remember what a
Weber was....

It's a carburator (remember them ,cars used to have them on)

A Weber is the amount of flux that - if reduced slowly to zero- induces a
single volt in a one turn coil.

Cheers!

At risk of fanning the flames, isn't that a rather obtuse statement dripping
with hyperbole?
I'm not agreeing that ALL people who are slightly insane come up with the
crazy ideas; I'd say 99.5% of crazy people live out their lives as ...crazy.
However, I'd go so far as to say 90% of the most amazing discoveries have
come from people with a little madness.
-------------
Nope. Not when they were crazy.

Again, I'm not a historian or a physicist, but some ideas that come to mind
are Pasteur (sp).
------------------
It was easy to figure out.
Heat kills living things, was the clue.

The idea of using mold to cure disease?? Insane!
------------------
Fleming saw some mold polluting some petri dishes. It killed the
bacteria.

Or the
guy who invented the smallpox vaccine. He tested a potentially lethal
vaccine on himself. You'd have to be a little nuts to do that, not to
mention it's a little crazy, the idea of injecting a live virus in order to
destroy a virus? Madness!
How about Newton? He was at best a neurotic,
-----------
He was a beaten child who remained a virgin all his life to try to
be perfect. His early genius was polluted and useless by this delusion
after he was 35.

and DiVinci was thought to be a manic-depressive.
------------
Pop legend.

Everyone who knew him thought that Feynman was an insane genius,
-----------
Feynman was extremely stable. People simply wish to hate geniuses,
or find they are flawed. It help people cope with their failures
to believe such dreck.

and don't forget that "Beautiful Mind" schizophrenic.
------------
The real guy was autistic and not even THAT functional.

And the
Curies? Playing around with radiation, for what most people thought was no
good reason? That was surely insane!
------------
NO one knew any such thing about radiation back then.

And Edison was an obsessive-compulsive
who some also think was manic-depressive.
-------------
More pop garbage.

And everyone here has mentioned,
including yourself, that Tesla was cookoo, but I think his place in the
history of geniuses is gaurenteed. After all, he's responsible for at leas
alternating current.
---------------------
Barely. You simply wish to believe insanity is genius, either because
you deeply resent genius, or fear you're crazy.

I think people who pass off the idea that great minds and great ideas don't
come from people a little off kilter, is deluding themselves blind to their
mediocrity.
--------------
No, they're normal! You're NOT!

It takes someone who the masses see as a little nuts to go
beyond the fringes of what's "possible" in order to come up with bigger and
better.
---------------
The "masses" don't have the vaguest idea what Truth is.
This is all compensation for failure.

And besides, I guess an eliteist who has no real clue about people wouldn't
realize a "white trash" person is generally white trash because they don't
care about education,

ROTFL!
OK Oh great and all-knowledgeable Steve. I defer to your obvious superiority
over all the masses and people who compensate their failures in your eyes by
calling genius a little mad.
Thanks for the laughter. My co-workers and I have gotten a kick out of your
arrogant elitist rantings and have passed your posts around the network. I
think we have a couple of ladies in our PR department who would like to
discuss some inaccuracies with your oral sex instructions on your website,
BTW.
I was hoping to troll you out a bit longer and refute your opinions (by the
way, you might want to brush up on what makes an opinion different from
fact,) but you're obviously not worth it.

If anyone else who's posted to this thread is reading, thanks for your time
and replies. I appreciate your taking the original question seriously and
posing thoughtful, respectful replies. Much appreciated.

Ciao!
