sanyo dvd palyer tuns off unexpectedly during operation.

i have a sanyo dvd player model no: dvd-sl25 that will power off as
soon as the disc tray has been retracted. and if it manages to stay on
after that, it will turn off soon after the disc has been read and
so-forth.
it has expired the 12 month warranty by just 1 month, it's not old.
there are no smokers in the house and the player never recieves
mechanical shocks, but i do not have a surge protector. but thats
hardly the point cos it woulnt be operating at all if there was a
surge.
i hope theres somebody out there who can help me with this, cos i dont
want to spend money on a repair.

Not necessarily. You can have a surge which may have damaged the power supply,
but only to the point where it won't fuction properly.

It's also possible that a power brownout could have caused a corruption of data
in the syscon bus, which may be causing the malfunction. Try clearing the
syscon by leaving the player unplugged overnight.

Well, if the player continues to malfunction, then the only option is repairing
or replacing. You are right to not want to consider paying for a repair as
Sanyo doesn't really make a good DVD player.

When replacing: Sony, Pioneer, or JVC. Pretty much forget about the others. -
