Does anyone on this list have a manual for OrCAD PCB for DOS that they
would be willing to part with? I have all of the manuals for STD and need
this last one.

Trying to use Yahoo groups is next to impossible. I have to turn off my
proxy host (popup and ad blocker) to get anywhere, and each time I try to
access it I find that Yahoo has forgotten my password and I have to go
through the entire new password/change it back routine. Not worth the
trouble, really.

I finally figured out the problem with Yahoo groups. I turned off my
proxy host momentarily, bookmarked the sign-in URL, and then turned the
proxy host back on. Now I won't have to expose myself to popup and banner
ads when I sign in. Too many of those contain viruses.

I'll give that Old DOS OrCAD group a try, but it's less than a month
old.

You can get popup blockers without all that trouble. Google toolbar does it
for example.

It's the same group of guys that was in another group for years.
I just moved the group because when yahoo ate egroups, they stuck us in the
"adult" section.

You only need to use email to talk to the group, set your prefs to not do
HTML email, and you'll only get little taglines on the messages.

I wouldn't want to part with my manual, but I could certainly answer any
questions you might have.

I tried the Google toolbar a few months ago, but it is not compatible
with Windows 95. I still use that system as I can shut it off and use my
DOS CAD software at full machine speed rather than going through the DOS
emulator that slows things down to the speed of a 386/20e.

Dave,
Thank you for the offer. I'll keep it in mind if anything comes up. I
don't run into any real difficulties with OrCAD PCB, it's just that having
the manual readily available is a comfort thing. I have all of the manuals
for SDT.

The last hurdle I had with OrCAD many years ago was in dealing with
nonheterogenous components, specifically with ICs like the CA3096 and CA3046
that have dissimilar functions in the same package. Tango handles them
perfectly, but that software is difficult to use when flooding groundplane.
And PCAD didn't handle it at all until they came out with version 5.0.
OrCAD was the best compromise I could come up with to suit my design
practices. I use those transistor arrays a lot for temperature
compensation.

Tried W98SE ? It's much better than 95.

That's why we keep using it! It works!

I know the feeling. I see users of other software cussing and discussing
different ways to do things that in old dos orcad are so trivial that it's
hard to imagine what all the fuss is about. At least it's hard until you
pick up one of the "new and improved" packages..

I beg to differ. Depends on your computer and a lot of luck, but for a
LOT of people Win98 (either edition) is an absolute POS. I've seen
Win95 be more stable on numerous systems -- and yes, Win98 can be more
stable on other systems. If Win95 is stable for this guy, don't
recommend that he go to anything else, unless he's got the horsepower to
got to XP.
