Multiple magnets, one zone, EOL resistor. Never works!

True ... I recently couldn't get a glass-break to work until I tossed
the supplied resistor and put one on that I knew was working correctly.

pretty darn rare to get a bad resistor unless it was fried by overvoltage.

I learned a long time ago not to use the ones that were burned black...

But they are fun to pop! across a 7amp batt.

Maybe your alarm contact is installed backwards..... :

How did it come out of the bag? Although I has a bad contact from the
factory.

come on its not rocket science

every one know that the metal part of the magnet will become a good switch
if placed in the good environment.. ;-)

judging from some of the questions herein...maybe it is rocket science and
we just dont know it.

You don't work for Tane do ya?
Sheesh I got a shit load of contact sets where the magnets fell out of the
cases...drove us nuts because they were those little surface 90's...pita.

Tane!!!??? Don't *ever* mention that word in here again... I'm sure
there's something in the FAQ about it too!!! :))

Yes, I had all sorts of DOA's right out of the box as well as ones that
simply didn't last. I ended up paying a couple of false alarm fines because
these contacts just didn't make the grade. Dunno if they've fixed the
quality control problem, but I don't intend to find out either...

I had a real run-in with the owner regarding quality control, not replacing
DOAs, magnets falling out of cases, and of course...double billing.

The guy I dealt with was a sleaze.

Actually, speaking of "Rocket Science", the following is an excellent book:

Flight by Chris Kraft. (I have the advance uncorrected proofs copy, so don't
know publication info.)

Anyway talk about a learning curve! This book is about NASA and their steps
toward eventually placing a man on the moon. Sometimes they did some
interesting jury-rigging to get things to work. Not what you would expect
from a "real" rocket scientist.... Great book!

Hah! You got me.
Anyway, there were TWO problems I finally figured out:
First, I stuck a resistor at the panel and it still read open. So,
since it's a little expander module, I removed the unit from the wall
and put it under heavy lights and looked very closely at the contacts.
There was a piece of something (wire possibly?) jammed between the
contacts! I removed that and it worked so far. But, the long 50' span
of window switches still read open all the time. So, I shorted each
one at a time and determined that the second one was bad. I cut it
out, replaced it, and re-soldered each connection and now it's fine.
Goddam incredible. I bet guys that do this every day must find all
sorts of crap shorting out the panel... dog hair, mice, roaches,
joints, whatever.
One thing I did also notice is two of the window magnets slipping off
the metal part of the Andersen windows. I guess that tape doesn't
stick very well. I tried a dab of silicone DAP but that didn't work
well either. I suppose I'm just going to Super Glue the darn things.
What do you guys use to make sure they never fall off?

The best glue I've found is GOOP it's not like silicon which never will
stick on in the same place or falls off because of temperature (usually too
cold)...you can buy Goop at Home Depot or anywhere actually...I swear by the
stuff. It is somekind of silicone but it dries faster and harder and CLEAR.

Never really had problems with something shorting out a panel though.

Not to mention, something "shorting out" a normally closed circuit
wouldn't cause the alarm panel to complain ...
