Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is not considered best practice.

Have you tried to ID the transformer and look up a datasheet?

I agree with you Steve and my knowledge of electronics is somewhat basic.

The setup this time is not exactly the same as last time as the transformer was hooked up incorrectly by me. I have done a a few searches but was unable to find a datasheet for the 19.26038.001 transformer.

I would love to work on this every day as it puzzles me but I received some complaints from my wife saying I spend too much time upstairs and too little time with the family (might sound familiar to some?) so I will have to wait for next week.

I just ordered some new transformers (different type) for which I was able to find a datasheet. It's a EE25 size model 74032 (picture attached)

Ok so now you have a known good transformer and a circuit of unknown provenance.

If nothing happens, try swapping pins 1 and 2.

If it still doesn't work then you will need to very carefully follow our instructions for troubleshooting.

It appears that this is a tuned oscillator. To get 500V from 5V, you will need a turns ratio greater than 100.

I will also buy an oscilloscope. It will be my first. I was planning on buying the Hantek DSO5102P for 222 USD including shipping. I have never worked with an oscilloscope but I will do some reading on it before using it.

You can check if the circuit is oscillating with a meter set to AC volts across a winding

Yeah I wasn't sure if a regular AC meter was able to measure different types of waves. I know it will measure sine but I'm not sure if the circuit is producing square and if square could be measured with a regular AC. If I don't need the oscilloscope than that would be great
