How to use cell phone to power LEDs

Hello all. I am working on a project where we would like to be able to use a cell phone as a power source for a handful of LEDs. Phone-ChargingCord-FemaleUSB-LEDs.

Can this be accomplished?

the phone or the charger as the power source

getting voltage out of the phone from its battery would not be easy

why on earth would you want to do this ?
what are you trying to achieve?

phone as the power source...we are designing something which needs a quick flash of leds powered by just a decently charged smart phone...
