Hello! I am just trying to figure out if what i am doing is right, I am currently building an enclosure for my 3d printer that will be heated.

The heater is a PTC 150w 12v dc 12,5A and the controller is a STC 1000 12v that can give a maximum of 10A, so there is the first problem that the STC can't handle the 12,5A the heater will draw. So my idea (quite new to electronics) is to add a relay that can handle 30A and a powersupply that converts 220v to 12v dc 30a, so instead of pulling the 12,5A through the STC 1000 the STC will only give a 12v signal to the relay that in turn will open up the current from the powersupply to the heater. Is that the correct way to do it?

here is an simple image to make it a more clear.

Why do you need a relay,
Aha got it
Why dont you put relay before inverter, so it will not run in vain
And use stronger relay, more amperage

Hm, how would that look like? In my mind the relay will only open up when a 12v signal is sent from the STC therefor there will be no amperage drawn from the powersupply to the relay, is that incorrect?

Do you mean like this?

There will be small drawn of power, coz inverter would always be on, i suggest you to buy ac relay 220v,that yoy would put before power goes in the inverter, but i am not so familiar with ac dc ralay power, you must wait some one with more knowledge than me.

Okay but the inverter will always need to be on anyway to power the STC temperature controller. But does my concept look right anyway with how i connect everything?

Yes, it is simple and shold work, mind the relay connection i has nc and no probably, normally closed and normally open.
You setup in nc, normally closed

But not to fry your setup, wait for someone with more knowledge than me, i am eletric beginner.

;) The hillbilly way to do it is inside the oven of a discarded

It the printer fits. Powered by 120V instead, with heating elements in series... and a dimmer as temperature control.
;)
