I am now building my PSU that I have used Proteus to simulate. I have come across a very basic problem that I did take into account in proteus.
See attached diag.
My variable resistor burned out due to not being able to handle the current (I believe). The circuit worked ok but RV1 soon smoked. I have looked at the data sheet for the LM317 but I can not work how much power/current is being sunk into RV1.
The output voltage of the circuit will be either 22 or 42 volts and the LM 317 will provide 1.5amp.
When I try and measure the current in series with RV1 I am getting uAmps which is what I think the data sheet is saying but the pot still smokes. Could it really be that the the voltage is too high for the pot? This I dont believe.
I am completely confused. I know this is as basic a question as you can get.
Any help is appreciated.
