CCD chip or board

Discussion in 'General Electronics' started by Preben Mikael Bohn, Jan 7, 2004.

  1. Hi NG, I need a cheap CCD chip or board with an easy serial or parallel
interface (i.e. not video out). The size should be more than 128x128
pixels, and the physical size should preferably be around or more than
5x5 mm although this is not a strict requirement.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Best regards Preben

    Hi Preben,
The only serial CCD chip board i know is the CMUcam, probably not what
your looking for, but may be worth a look.

Its great for color detection, object tracking etc. And its a serial
    interface.
I recently got one, great little thing. I havent used it in anything
yet, but i'll find a use for it one day :).
I cant remember off hand what the resolution is, but i think that may
    be possible.
It is a *bit* bigger than you want, sort of credit card sized, and 2cm
thick. (with the ccd protruding, making it thicker again).

Anyway, thaught it was worth a mention :).
Oh, its no good for streaming too, doesnt get the images off fast
    enough.
but for a still snapshot (aslong as the scene is not moving much) it
    works.

  3. Hi Alex
Do you know if the optics can be removed? I need the "raw" CCD as I am
going to use it for fine positioning of a laser beam, so any optics will
    simply distort it.

    Best regards Preben

    Hi Preben,
Yeah, the focus thingie unscrews all the way off, leaving the chip
exposed, but still leaves the shroud, to protect it from ambient
light, but that could be removed, carefully.
Im not sure if the CMUcam would help, its not designed to output the
image data, but perform image calculations on board and output the
    results.

Also i just realised its a CMOS lense, not CCD. I dont really know the
    difference ...

    Alex.
