Hi

Have a couple of Vutrax .dia files that I need to view but don't have
Vutrax!

Are there any third party tools available to convert .dia files into
dxf or something similar? Ideally I'd like to view then in Autocad or
Turbocad or Protel which we do have.

If you just need to view them, you could download the free version of
VUTRAX from www.vutrax.co.uk, then use this to print them out. If you
have acrobat equivalent you could even make a PDF.

In fact it looks like the free version contains a DXF export facility.

After installation, look at Tools / Interfaces / Vutrax to DXF.

You can get a free version of Vutrax from either of
http://www.vutrax.co.uk (Main UK site for Vutrax CAD)
http://www.protonique.com/vutrax (Central Europe Mirror)

It has just (Saturday) reached version 12.5a but all issues can
read files written by earlier versions.
If you visited the site on Friday or Saturday Morning you may
have got caught up with the warnings of impending update.
Its all ready now for both Windows and Linux.

Its free for complete designs (Schematic, Auto-Routing, Desktop, CNC
and Photoplotting etc.) up to 256 pins, but the graphics engine can
be used as a viewer for any size of drawing - you just can't save
changes. DXF output is available. You can make PDF by outputting
from 'DRAFT' to a PDF generating Windows 'printer' driver.

I currently have the free version of 12.0c and indeed appears to have
a dxf export facility. However, as soon as you run it it tells you
that this option isn't supported in the free edition! Has this changed
in the latest free version?

Thanks for the ofer of converting these files but I'm going to need to
do this conversion on a semi regular basis so really need to find a
permanent solution. Unfortunately I can't really jsutify buying the
full copy of Vutrax to do this.

Can anyone confirm that the latest free edition will export to dxf?

12.0c dates back to 1998 and things change.

All features except specialised 3rd party interface modules
are now included in the free issue.

You don't need to - just download the 256 pin free edition which
includes a full capacity viewer. DXF import/export is included
and enabled in the minimal download (about 10MB).

Yes, me, the author.
