Viewsonic monitor died

Hi all.

I have a large Viewsonic monitor.
Recently it started occasionally making a loud BANG sound and the
picture would freak out then come back to normal.
It did that for a few days and then just stopped working.
Is this repairable?
How expensive might it be?

Thanks
Shawn

Without knowing the model number or having a crystal ball there's not
much we can tell you.

I have a computer that just stopped working too. It made a funny
beeping noise and now doesn't work. Can you tell me how much it will
be to fix it and if it is repairable?

Come one, give us something to go on. Which one of the hundreds of
Viewsonic models might it be? What are the results of some basic
troubleshooting? See www.repairfaq.org for some hints on where to
start.

Sorry folks.
Not having any knowledge of electronics I did not know if this was a
common problem or not.
The model number is G810 made in 1999.
I've had no problems with it up until now.
I'll check out the troubleshooting site.

Thanks again.
Shawn

Do a google groups for the model G810 Viewsonic in this group for lots
of hits and one common problem with a fairly expensive part failure.

If you chose not to repair it, post your location here as someone might
take it for free so you won't have the hazardous waste disposal fees.

Loud bang or loud snap? Snapping can be from arcing (insulation
failing), but a loud bang can be a capacitor exploding or the flyback
core cracking apart. Capacitors are cheap, but a flyback for that may
be $50-$130, higher from a repair shop.

As suggested, this may be an expensive repair:

Many flat-rate monitor repair centers charge $100 but much more when a
new video cable or flyback transformer is needed. Don't expect a
computer center to know how to fix monitors.

Capacitors generally only explode once, so I'm voting for arcing.

I have a G810 in great condition I could sell you for $75+shipping. I'm
switching to LCD. Might be cheaper than the repair.

I think the latter post mentioning HV arch is probably your issue.

Given that 100% of that model I have seen had a bad flyback and
sometimes some collateral damage, I too am betting on the $80 flyback
plus some other parts to fix it.
