Hi everyone,

I'm a bit of a newbie to electronics as I'm more of a programmer but I'm building a project to turn on and off devices that consume 5v 500mA-1A of power. I'm thinking of using the Devantech 8-Channel USB Relay Module to turn them on and off but I'm not sure how to power the devices. I need each channel to have 5v 500mA no matter how many devices are on. I want this to be powered from the wall socket either or from an adapter at lower power. Does anyone know how to do this? I really appreciate any help.

If there are 8 channels each requiring 5V at 500mA then you need a 5V 4A power supply.

If the power source doesn't need to be common, then you could use 2 x 5V 2A, or 4 x 5V 1A, etc.

It is best if your power source can supply more power than you require. That way it won't be running as close to its maximum spec and may last longer and/or run cooler.

Thanks for the reply! I think I understand now. If I only have one device connected on a 5v 4A circuit then it wont use more than the amount of amps it requires?
