Ok, I have been programming for about 8 years now, in PERL, C++, Python, JAVA, and some others here and there. mostly for office and web based applications, but I have a large aquarium and i need to build a controller system for it. I can buy one, but i want to control every part from a single program (that i am already writing). also i'm a beginner when it comes to hardware and circuits, so bare with me..
so i just need to get some pointers, and ideas how to start...
also some online tutorials would also help, i also have a relative that can help with the circuits, he builds amps, and he builds remote control antennas for Traxxas, so he can help with some of the really technical stuff. I would also like to make more for some friends, so its not just a one time build, thanks
this is what i think i need to do...
Build a control hub (use one or multiple controllers)
+ there could be 3 to 200 devices run by this system
+ those devices could be anything from:
-Relays (to turn on Lights, Pumps, heaters)
-Sensors (Humidity, Temperature, Salinity, PH, Vibrations, Light, Water)
-and others
Any input and direction is greatly appreciated.
It would be cheaper and easier to buy an existing system, but what would be the fun in that
