Hi,

I don't service as many Sony TVs as other brands, but I can't remember the
last time I had to replace a FBT in a Sony TV. This set apparenty has a bad
FBT based on tests I performed and using a scope (ringing) with a loop around
the FBT core. The V reg (+135V) is good using a dummy load with an open trace
to FBT B+, but with "flyback" in circuit, the B+ is loaded down to around
+50V to +80V (pulsing). H.O.T. tested good out of circuit. Are FBT
failures common in this Sony model?

Thanks in advance, Brad

I have had bad flybacks in Sony sets. Sometimes the defect is actually in
the multipliplier module that is part of it, and not shorted or opened turns
in the flyback. When changing the flyback assembly, I like to make sure that
there are no other defective components before putting the power back on.
