Sony TV mod. KV27TS20
I've searched the net and tried all suggestions but cant get into service
mode. I also couldnt find a service manual for this model. So I tried
method for other KV27TS models. does this mod not have one?

have tried: power off, display, 5, vol+, power on (from remote)
:power off, display, 5, power on " "
pressed each key within one second per key and all 5 keys within 1 second.
(quick fingers!)
there is no service mode switch near video in. What am I doing wrong? I
want to adjust pincushion and color.
thanks Roy B

This model does NOT have a service mode! It is too old! The service menu
system came out about 3 to 4 years after the TS series was made.

If your set (or any set) was working when new and has a fault, it is a
component that has failed. It is not an adjustment. I strongly suggest to
NOT touch any adjustments in a TV that is not working correctly. This will
only compound the fault.

Have the set properly service, and it will work again without needing
adjustments.

Thanks Jerry. I was suspecting it didn't have one. I was just wanting to
correct for some MINOR color and linear problems.
Set origionally was too dark. Picture setting was all the way to max.
Colors washed out. poor focus.
I brought picture down to mid scale, adjusted screen and focus. I checked
the G2 line, D518 & R587, there are OK.
It looks so much better now anyway. Still a pretty good TV.
Thanks again for the reply Roy B

If I recall correctly, this model has a tiny unmarked hole near
the input connectors on the back of the set. You use a pen or
toothpick to press the button in behind the hole while turning
the set on with the remote. It will come up in service mode.

If his set had a service mode, he would not have found the pots that
he did for the colour ballance, and bais settings he wanted. The said
pots would have not been there.

As for the models with the pin holes these were the EXR, and some of
the HR, and XBR series that were the first generation of having a
service menu.

All the new Sony sets now work with the remote control to get in to
the service mode.

I own a TS series set, and also serviced many of these, and never have
seen one with a service menu yet!

Some of the KV27TS that have service menus
are KV27TS/29/32/36 and are accessable by
Display 5 Vol + Power .

Alas...I give up on a service mode....
Yes this set has no service mode. (sounds like a song about bananas)
Apparantly some later models of the TS do though.
Thanks for all your replies.

Roy
ps: Man this set is HEAVY!

This tv stills seems a bit too dim and if I bring brightness up with
picture+ it washes out a little. Also has too much red on some scenes.
Anyone have a down and dirty method of adjusting these without tv test
equiptment? maybe just using my eyes even.?
I checked this site and it is not what Im looking for.

Jerry,

I stand corrected.

I found the service manual for the set with the pin hole service mode
and it was a 27HSR10, not a TS.

I was reading through this thread and the following comment by Roy
caught my eye:

ps: Man this set is HEAVY!

I have a Sony that a friend gave me last year and it is the heaviest
TV I ever tried to pick up. I looked at the model number and
Surprise-Surprise it's a KV22TS22.

I tried the suggested remote control sequence of Display, 5, Volume +,
Power and it does not come up to a service menu.

The reason my friend gave it to me was a problem it had where it would
turn itself off every few minutes. The power button on the remote
would not do anything but if you pressed the power button on the set
twice it would turn back on.

His repair shop had kept it a month and when he got it back it still
had the trouble. His wife said "Get rid of it".

I removed the circuit board and cleaned it and resoldered any joints
that looked fuzzy. It worked without failure for a year but it did it
again twice last week. It has a great picture and I can live with
that. Besides, I can't pick the thing up by myself.
