Resistor Value Identification Help

I have searched around the internet, used a plethora of online tools, and I'm at a complete loss as to what value this resistor is supposed to be. It's a 5-band, thin-film resistor with color codes: Yellow - Violet - Green - Gold - Green. I can post a picture, if anybody wants to see it.

I find this to be 47.5 Ω and 0.5% tolerance. It is on a 120V line so I expect the rating to be > 300W. I can't even find a resistor with these ratings online. When I test it with my multimeter, it registers as 4.7M Ω. Another multimeter that maxes at 2000K Ω doesn't register it at all.

It feels like too much of a coincidence to be wrong but I can't figure out how 4.7M is the correct value. Can anybody else shed some light on this?

Yellow, violet, green = "4, 7, 5" = 47x10^5 = 4.7MΩ.

except green isn't a valid tolerance band colour so the gold is your tolerance and the green may be a voltage rating or something ... cannot find a reference

trust your meter

EDIT .... OK found this

note the comments ... "If band 4 is gold or silver, then it is the tolerance band and the 5th band is a temp coefficient rating

Beautiful! I wish I had found that on my own. I truly appreciate both of your help in understanding. I trusted my meter, I just wanted to bridge the gap between what it was telling me and my previous understanding. This tidbit seems to be missed by a lot of online resources.

It can get confusing ....there's a few different variations but you will find green is never a tolerance so the above example from that image page answers the Q

note the 4 band is the multiplier and the 5th band the tolerance ... limited to BN, RD, GLD, SI or BL


the more it's looked into the more crazy it gets, as some manufacturers don't stick by the standards and come up with their own ideas for
band 4 and band 5. eg Mullard

yes, that is correct

as I said there are some manufacturer variations
