reducing refrigerator surge current?

I saw a chart that suggests that turn-on surge for a refrigerator can be as
high as 4X the running current.

Are there any refrigerator designs (other than Peltier) that seek to limit
surge current?

All motors use about 6x of running amps when starting. Short of an vfd or
softstart installed by the factory I know of nothing that would help that I
would recommend.
Larger supply or larger wire to the appliance would help but your still
going to deal with the peak.

Probably couldn't soft-start an AC induction motor.
I thought there might be some appliance that used a brushless DC instead,
but since it's sealed in the compressor, that's unlikely too.

Dunno what the Danfoss compressors used in the SunFrost units are, but
it ought to be reasonably easy to find out...

My propane fridge is too small, the freezer is not frost free, and the
inside temperature varies greatly with ambient temp. Frozen milk today,
sloppy Jell-O tomorrow. But I have no other option, so I live with it.

Try Propane or Natural gas! Extremely low surge! Unmeasurable one could
say !

Take years of study and learning. Anyone with an open mind and a bit of
practical common sense can be understanding. Making stupid statements like
"the only decent one" without explaining why that particular model is
different from other gas fridges shows a distinct lack of understanding.

Servel, Consul, Dometic .....

Take your pick, they all work the same way.

My beef with my unit is the same with any propane fridge. But it does work,
and I don't have the power to run a electric one.
