Camera is RGB over FPD-link III.
Screen output on head unit is likely LVDS over FPD-link III.

FPD-link encapsulates (setializes) the signal so that you can send a whole bunch of data over 2 wires of what used to be 8(?) strands for RGB.

It needs an encoder on one end, and decoder on the other.

There are vehicle specific devices to do what the OP wants. They're anot $300 on eBay.

Thanks for that @Romey-Rome. Thread was a little old, but the Op and future searches may find your post.
It does certainly sound like a lot of thinking and designing would still be required to create a DIY solution.

Yeh - That's why I ended up bumping it. Google searching is exactly how I need up here. I spent several hours tracking all the info down on the video interface on the newer cars for my own purposes similar to OP's. This particular system is used in BMW (was the first), Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Ford, and I'm sure others.
