Hi,

I want to replace my noisy PS2 fan with a new one. Does anybody know
what voltage the fan is? I would like to use a PC fan, so I can get a
good quality silent one. I know that the latest PS2 fan is 30dB lower
but finding one is tough.

Thanks

most likly a 12 Vdc brushless type but you may want to check before
disconnecting to determine that., it could be a AC box fan..

isn't a PS2 kind of old or am i falling behind
the waste side ?

I'm assuming he means a Playstation 2 game console, came out about 2 years
ago and still the top of the line offering from Sony.

There was an old (read ancient) computer from IBM that was called PS/2.
AFAIK it was the first system to use PS/2 keyboards.

And it also may be a Playstation 2.

Does this come down to a difference in the punctuation that is used?

I've always taken PS/2 to refer to the IBM Personal System 2 computer, which
was in fact the first model of x86-based home computer to use the keyboard &
mouse connectors that have commonly become known as PS/2 ports.

I've always taken PS2 to refer to a Sony Playstation 2.

Hi!

AFAIK it was the first system to use PS/2 keyboards.

But those fans don't fail. (!) IBM wasn't cheap skating on them. I run these
systems, many 24/7 for my collection. (They are used for "useful" purposes,
if you're wondering.)

I have NEVER had a one start to rumbling or indicate that it was worn out.
Keep in mind that said fans are at best 6 years old now. Many are 10+.

Unfortunately, yes it really does. Maybe not to people who actually care
about the punctuation, but Playstation 2 users do wander into
comp.sys.ibm.ps2.hardware every now and then. And some people looking for
help with their PS/2 do call it a "PS2".

Then there's the "Brew Meisters" that wander into

rec.radio.amateur.homebrew from time-to-time...
