Hello,

How do I remove the platter from Pioneer Turntable PL-117D? The belt has
turned into goo but the platter does not lift out. Is there a catch?

Use an object such as a plastic handled screwdriver. While grabbing the
platter by the two finger-holes and pulling up, tap on the center spindle
with the plastic handle. Firmly but not too hard. The platter will come
right off.

Thank you very much. It took exactly one whack. Anything else I should
watch out for when replacing the belt?

Clean any residue from the platter and motor pulley. If possible clean any
debris from around the motor shaft and appli a bit of light oil where the
shaft enters the motor. It's due after all these years.

Residue? I need a shovel. Looks like this machine was sitting unattended
for many years. The belt has tuned into sticky goo and bonded to the
platter.

Thanks again.
