I was receiving so much SPAM at the e-mail address I used for this
group that I closed it.

The new address shown in the message header is a bit bucket. See
signature for changes to address.

This may save you some spam, but in the long run, the new email addy
will start collecting spam, again.

At the University where I work, as soon as I got a new email addy, the
very first day I started received spam. Upon querying the System's
Administrator, I was informed that all email addresses are actually kept
in db's which may occasionally be locally or globally published, so that
scavenger programs still have access to new addys, despite the fact that
they may have been barely used.

Bummer.

I don't believe that e-mail addresses are published by the ISPs where
the mailbox is located. Many are "harvested" from newsgroups like this
one and Web sites that list e-mail addresses. Others are "guessed"
using a dictionary search against common domain names. Still others
are harvested by viruses that search through address books on infected
computers. My domain is not common, so I do not expect to get SPAM at
the new address until it is harvested in some manner.

I will keep you posted.
