I also have a Soar ME-501 and wondered if someone might be able to assist me. With the rear cover removed a red wire is attached to a board connector right alongside a small I.C. 1A3 4. HD14077BP. The other end has come off its connection. Is anyone able to tell me where the red wire should be attached? Thank you.

Photo of multimeter. The red wire in question is the one on the right. Bottom end attached. Top end disconnected. Anyone know where it should be connected to? Thanks.20180320_121614.jpg

Without answering the question, but asking instead; what do you see below the pair of blue and red shorter wires ? Shows like a dark spot on the image, between the white trimmer and a green capacitor?.
Is it a lifted pad still attached to the end of the disconnected red wire ?

Thanks for your question Externet. The dark spot appears to be a transistor. I have added some photos which might help. I guess that the only way to find out is to compare it with another of the same model.20180321_115430.jpg 20180321_115430.jpg

No, you haven't. You've added two identical photo's, neither of which focus on the thing that's soldered to the end of the red wire.

A picture of the area around aforementioned transistor would be useful.

The loose red wire 'may' attach to the rear panel that you've removed - some meters have a screening shield on the back panel. Is there any mark on that panel to indicate the wire may have come from it? Is there a missing audio transducer? Most meters have a 'beep' facility but I see no transducer in yours that might create it....

kellys-eye, I think that you might have nailed it. There is a screening shield inside the back cover with a small hole in it. Looks like the metal tab on the red wire has pulled away from it. I hadn't thought to look at the back cover until now. Just need to find a way to re-attach it. Thank you.
