A Web site describing how a new design of cleaner could save energy equal to
the total output of 650 Wind Turbines.

So what? What do you think how much energy is wasted by electronic
devices without a "real" main switch that really turns off the power
supply? Not only TV, VCR where standby could make sense, also PCs,
monitors, printers, scanners, Hi-Fi systems, and all devices with an
external power supply (mobile phone, discman, ...)

_every_ single device consumes 1 - 5 Watts, not only some minutes a day
but _always_! I estimate that you could easily save one nuclear power
plant in the UK if everyone would e.g. plug his computer and all
peripherals on a power distributor with a main switch, unplug his mobile
phone charger when he does not need it,... and in addition I would say
you could afford a nice meal in a restaurant with the money you save.

In comparison to the energy that is wasted all the time the vacuum
cleaners are unimportant. Why does nobody care? Because energy is still
much too cheap, even in Europe.

A vacuum clear generally blows out that is heated by the motor. In the
heating season this heat is kept with the heat envelope of the house. So
overall, not as inefficient as you might think.

..Edison certainly was a good judge of people, the comments I have just read
certainly justify his comments shown below.
Edison said Quote ' There is not a single new art or device the World has
ever had enjoyed of which it can be said that it was given an immediate and
enthusiastic reception.
First they said it could not be done; the second in which they said anybody
could do it; and the third in which they said it had always been done by
everybody.

I think it would pay you to actually read my Web pages before jumping to
conclusions This new cleaner actually exists, it is patented, It has been
developed and tested over about fourteen years. pictures on my the web pages
will show how it works.
Forty volunteers some of them asthmatics have tested prototypes for many
months and all said it outperformed the cleaners that they normally use.
Still, discussion can be good so thank you for your interest Gentlemen.

Even your vacuum will leak some dirty air into the environment of a house
interior because it is impossible to have an airtight seal. I prefer a
central vacuum where all the dirty air is exhausted outside and not in the
house. Granted this air and the heat or cooling it contains is wasted. But
the inside of my house has absolutely no dust or allegens stirred up into
the interior. The air that goes separately through the motor to cool it is
retained in the envelope.

Do you not run air through the motor to cool it? Where do you dump it. You
certainly cannot use the hot dirty air to cool the motor!

I will try to answer your questions Eric.

A Even your vacuum will leak some dirty air into the environment of a house
interior because it is impossible to have an airtight seal.

A My machine is not a vacuum cleaner. And the air being drawn through the
carpet is immediately replaced by the air that comes from the outlet this
means that the seals do not fail under the ambient air pressure in the same
way that the Vacuum cleaner seals do.

Q I prefer a central vacuum where all the dirty air is exhausted outside
and not in the
house. Granted this air and the heat or cooling it contains is wasted.

A So It would not be able to replace energy lost and be no more efficient
than a Vacuum cleaner.

And it is not possible for everyone to have such a system and in any case it
reminds me of the days when people emptied their buckets out of the window.

Q Do you not run air through the motor to cool it? Where do you dump it.
You
certainly cannot use the hot dirty air to cool the motor!

A It is possible to make motors that use thinner laminations and this will
reduce the eddy currents that flow and reduce heat. And using thicker wire
for the windings will make the motors run much cooler than the vacuum
cleaner motors.

But because the closed loop cleaner uses much less power normall motors run
cool.

Q Where do you dump it. You certainly cannot use the hot dirty air to cool
the motor!

A The same as with the Vacuum Cleaner

In a vacuum cleaner the motor draws the air from the carpet then through the
dust bag, which acts as the primary filter, and the majority of the dust is
deposited there leaving only the finest of particles to continue on through
the system and the motor.

The fine filters are not introduced into the Vacuum cleaner system until the
air has been through the motor it is the fine filters that obstruct the air
flow causing the need for larger motors and creating the back pressures that
cause the vacuum cleaner seals to fail.

In the CAFC or closed loop cleaner the exhaust air is returned to the head
of the cleaner after being allowed to expand in expansion chambers and
hoses, this causes the temperature of the air to drop.

It is then directed onto the carpet to lift dirt and dust, along with the
action of the revolving brush at this point it comes under the influenced of
the intake of air from the fan, and the carpet or floor acts as the lower
wall of a continuous air channel where the flow of air is completely
independent of the 14.7 pounds per square inch of ambient air pressure.

This unique aerodynamic action is why the machine works at a fraction of the
power of a conventional cleaner.

The surface area of the CAFC case and the carpet itself further reduce the
temperature of the air and in practice this system will run cooler than a
vacuum cleaner for the same amount work achieved.

When I try to explain the CAFC to someone it reminds me that at school we
were told that a two-stroke engine should not work. But for some unknown
reason it did.

In fact the reason is quite logical but not easy to explain.

And look what happened to Frank Whittle and his engine only a World war got
that off the ground.

This is a cool cleaner. If it really runs at 250W (and still catches the
dirt) then applause!!!!

My Vacuum uses 850W. Not 2.5kW as statet on your website. And i'm happy
with it. Ok,ok, I'm a man and a woman wants perhaps a stronger one :)
Perhaps central vacuums have stronger motors.

I'm a bit critical about he powersaving effect. Since the main work will
be done pulling the air through the dust-bag not with blowing it out of
the case. Especially if the dustbag is nearly full.

But you have surely done your measurements. If I had some milliions on the
bank I would support your product. Until then I'll wait till I can buy the
superefficient cleaner in the shops.

Cool idea, good luck
Ben

Hi Ben,
It gets a bit complicated and not to obvious. The maximum air pressure at
the base of a vacuum cleaner is only equal to the ambient air pressure about
14.7 psi .

But the air pressure coming from the exhaust to be returned to the head of
the cleaner is way above the 14.7 psi, this increases the air speed in the
CAFC system accordingly.

I think this will help to explain why the system works so well.

I forgot to mention the reason why some of the Vacuum cleaners use high
power motors.
It is because of the very dense filtering that they use in trying to trap
dust particles down to 0.3 micron.
But this will still not hold back viruses because they are only 20 to 250
nanometres across.
Cheers.
Ben
