Maytag washer model A106 Leaks water

My A106 leaks water. It is coming out of between the gasket that seals
the top half to the bottom half of the transmission. This is evident
during the wash cycle. .I rebuilt this machine 5 years ago and
replaced all the seals and gaskets and it has run fine until last
week. I can't visualise what might have failed to cause this. I
refilled the transmission and sealed the new gasket with permatex. It
has never leaked transmission oil since the rebuild so its amazing
that water is now leaking out of the transmission. Is this job a total
strip down again? It seems like it couldn't be the tub seal or water
would come out of the tub. but whats going on here? And how do I
address this? Thanks, Lenny.

Not really an electronics issue, but try the uk.d-i-y group (even if
you are American) - there's someone there who knows all about washing
machines.

Or maybe the alt.home.repair ng.

Good luck.

I don't know the machine in question, but my guess would be the top seal
below the agitator. My experience lies on British machines where it`s
usually a tulip shaped neoprene seal with an internal spring pressing a
ceramic ring against a similar ring on the bottom of the drive cube onto
which the agitator sits. If that`s the case, you will be able to replace
it without much of a strip down.
