Stupid question probably but what does the (T1) specification for
LED's mean?

Diameter.  For a long time, small electric lamps have been
sized by eighths of an inch diameter.  The number of eighths
of an inch diameter is preceded by the letter T.  T1=1/8th
inch diameter  T1 3/4=1.75/8th inch diameter (~.219 inch).
T2=2/8th = 1/4 inch diameter, etc. The same diameter
standard was carried over for many LED lamps, though mm
diameters are also very common.  3mm is about a T1.  5mm is
about a T1 1/2.

Thank you!

The common 5 mm size bullet shape LEDs are the ones known as T1-3/4
LEDs.
