Identify Thermal Switch

Hi

Can anyone identify a manufacturer or supplier of thermal switches which look
like:

This component is used in NiCad packs for drills and is short circuit while cold
but goes open-circuit when heated. If we can identify a source and determine
temperatures available, we can test to see what temperature the good ones we
have operate at.

It looks like an ordinairy DIAC or diode. Diodes have well defined
thermal characteristics, but which part number this one has???

Thanks but Diac/Diode was the first thing I though. Then we thought it was a
NTC thermistor made by BC Components (based on a reverse biased diode). But we
have a few battery packs and the components in the packs that work are all SC
when cold and go OC when heated. The devices in the packs that don't work (they
won't charge) all have permanently OC components.

Once heated and gone OC, do the good ones then return to SC when they
cool?

Could they be Polyfuses, those polymer self-resetting low voltage
"fuses?"

Whoops, no. I just looked at your photo. That's a glass case, right?
Doesn't look like any kind of Polyfuse that I've seen.

Yes. They are in series with the charging circuit so it prevents the battery
being charged when it is hot.

This one is marked KLIXON YS11A45B-005-TP2AB.

Klixon appear to be a division of TI that offer thermal devices
http://www.ti.com/mc/docs/precprod/docs/ .

A search of the site for the part number or devices that look the same reveals
nothing.

Yes, Klixon makes thermal switches, but I've not seen any that look
like your photo.
