Hello all!

I had a bad basement flood a while back that sent my HP OfficeJet 500
underwater for several hours. The water was dirty, but not salty or
corrosive to electronics as far as I can tell. Thankfully the circuit
breaker popped long before the OfficeJet ever got wet, so it was unpowered
at the time it went under water. After drying in the sun and cleaning the
case up it appears to function normally. Everything happens when it should
and I can even set the time and date normally.

In fact, everything is fine except for the fact that the unit continually
directs me to "replace the scanner cover" even though it is firmly in place.
I have determined that simple "optical interrupt" switches govern this
function and may be clouded over with dirty water residue. I cannot,
however, figure out how to get this machine opened up to work on the
problem. Can anyone offer any hints or tips?

William
