I looked inside the battery housing and the temperature contact is not connected to anything
Your sonically welded connections look a bit suspect which started me wondering about whether a repair was bodged.

Do you have these 2 black cables running up the side of the top battery?

I don't, but from your photo I'm not sure where the two black cables are connected to. Could you show me please?
This might be the problem!!:)

If you look closely at the photos you will see that one black wire comes through the plastic and gets connected to the big pin on the left of the photo. The other black wire stops short and connects to the wide pin closest to you. I unfortunately don't have a photo of where those 2 wires go when they disappear into the battery pack but I suspect they go to a thermistor.

No writing on it. Just a piece of heatshrinked plastic

I think you can remove the heatshrinked plastic and look inside. Can you do that please?

Just for future reference, there are only 2 basic types of thermistors NTC (negative temp coefficient; temp up, resistance down) and PTC (positive temp coefficient; temp up, resistance up) as far as I know.
