I am looking for a hex editor that displays a checksum value while you edit
the data (from an eprom image), has anyone got some ideas what type of
program to use ?
I have a few hex editors, but none display a checksum value, I have to load
the data into another program to get the checksum.

Download the utilities from this site (for a Sunshine programmer):

Use edbin.exe.

Guys, thanks for the replys, I downloaded a program called HACKMAN, the
editor allows the checksum window to be open while editing the data and a
quick click shows the checksum in a varity of formats, and it covered the
16bit checksum that I needed.
