Hi,

I am fixing a set of LED lights where the live an neutral wires have come unattached (see pictures) I need to know which of the 2 terminals are live and neutral so I can solder the wires back into place. Thanks for your help.

Daniel

Hi Daniel
I think you will get into trouble with the moderators if you jump into someone elses thread.

I would doubt if the board is running at high voltage, if not, then there will be no line or neutral. The board contains diodes so possibly runs on AC.

Does the supply come from the mains or from a transformer?
If it is a transformer, post one of your excellent pictures of its specification.

Ah the good old moderator. I will send him my apologies.

Thanks for your reply. The light runs off UK mains supply. I have replaced the plug and 2 core cable but need to know where to solder the live and neutral from the plug onto the circuit. You can see at the bottom of the circuit on the pictures from the previous post that there are two mounds of solder where the previous wires once were.

Is it possible to determine the above by the orientation of the diodes?

It almost certainly doesn't matter which way around the mains goes.

Yeah, I've seen these. Mains operated, and everything running essentially at mains potential.

Lucky the insulation used it pretty tough!

I was going to say the same thing, but I wasn't positively sure.
