I'm new to this group. It looks good.

I recently installed an Everfocus EDSR-900 digital video recorder.
It's easy to use and review.

I noticed the image quality is not that good with a pinhole motion
detector cameras. Can anyone reccomend a black and white camera that
is not too expensive
but can provide good resloution so faces will be indentifiable when
reviewing the DVR?

Thank you.

What's the application? How far away from the camera is the "object"? How
big a field of view do you want? Does the camera have to be "covert"??
What's lighting in the area like??

Thanks for the questions, Frank and Robert.

The application for this camera would be the entrance lobby to the
clubhouse for a townhouse complex. There are 5 motion detector pinhole
cameras in various rooms.

Faces are not clear on any of the cameras but I think if we have one
quality image of the subject(s) entering the lobby, we can maintain
continuity on them after this by using the 5 cameras. I'd like to keep
the current lobby camera as it affords a view of the entire lobby
area.

The current camera is 24-27 feet away from the area to be covered but
the new camera could be mounted anywhere on the ceiling closer to the
door, although if it's any closer than 1/2 of the length of the lobby
we may get more of the top of their heads?

I'd like to install the new camera on the ceiling so people could not
reach it without a ladder. Covert is not necessary but if a dome
camera could provide a very clear image this would be fine too. (Black
and White is fine)

The area is moderately and evenly lit by flourescent ceiling lighting;
however because of backlighting the image is washed out for a few
seconds when people open the door.

The current image is not clear enough to identify faces. At first I
thought it was the DVR but I think the Everfocus EDSR-900 is fairly
good and just needs a better camera. The live image is very close to
the recorded image.
Hopefully the Everfocus uses true multiplexing, so that the full
screen image is a true full screen and not a sectioned screen blown up
to full screen.

I did a rough diagram below that depicts the entrance lobby. I could
also
e-mail you a current image of the area as I can save to flash card.

you wont find many high res pinhole cameras, neither will you find
them with low lux levels normally. If you really want to get good
images use a high res fixed dome, varifocal lens or mirco lenses such
as 6, 8, 12, 16 or 25mm. Kalatel has a wide range of discreet and
hidden cameras with high resolution, and high res B/W or color domes.
The wider the angle of the lens, eg. 2.5, etc, the less chance of a
good image of a persons face, try a narrower lens such as at least
4mm, or more like 6mm, 8mm etc, and get as close as possible, dont try
to get in to much, leave that to an area camera that is used mainly to
capture what is happening in a certain area.

If you like email me at [email protected] (remove NOSPAM)
and i can help you out, or post over at www.cctvforum.com and you may
get some more responses as it is a dedicated CCTV forum. Send me some
images if you have them.

Also, the Everfocus is okay, i sell them as a low end DVR. Make sure
it is in the highest record mode. I did notice playback is not as
clear as playback on a Kalatel DVR, but then price differs, and it is
still good playback and an easy DVR to use. Is the live display good?
Also, check the live display from each camera directly on a CCTV
monitor or small TV, to make sure the camera is good or not. Recorded
images are only as good as the camera though, so like you said, that
is probably where you need to concentrate.

forgot to say, if you are not using a wide dynamic camera, or not
using a camera with good backlighting settings, you should move the
camera off the door or bring it in more to get rid of the glare.
