batteries in basement or garage???

Ron Rosenfeld, who lives in Maine, has his batteries in the garage, for
safety reasons.
OTOH, they could freeze at some discharge level.

I can understand arguments based on capacity and safety, but I'd like to
hear what other people do, ie., conventional practice.

Do you feel uncomfortable with 1500 lbs of batteries in your basement in a
properly ventilated battery box?
Or do you worry more about freezing and degradation due to summer heat?

BTW, Ron, how noisy is that inverter? What model do you have?

Robert, the first things that comes to mind is lugging 1500 pounds of lead
down (and up) a set of basement steps.
That does get me, and it hurts my imagination :).
In case of fire, the garage might give you better buffer-zone for your
house...a fire starting at the lowest level of a structure sounds bad.
Very true.
My recollection might be faulty, but I think you said you were interested in
back-up power rather than using this as a supplement to your regular power
useage. Also, for some reason I want to say your located in the northeast
area. Of course, I could be completely wrong. But, a question would be how
hot does it get inside your garage? Also, since the batteries would be
under use during an outage and would be hopefully recharged with conditions
permitting, wouldn't this tend to create some internal battery heat in both
situations? Outside of that, a small Coleman propane heater could possibly
be used.
I'm concerned that if there were a prolonged power outage, and the
state-of-discharge goes below some level (50%?), the batteries could freeze,
and, of course, be runed.

Just some thoughts, but if I had the option I'd go for the garage location.
Ed

Thanks for the reply. You're swaying me.

but damn, we'll have to provide new blueprints for your battery box for
you if you put the battery box in the basement. you do have a basement
don't you? or are you going to ask for the plans on building one

Just continuing, Morein is so stupid, he isn't worth helping.
I suggest everybody killfile the ****.
And we ought to export his ass back to wherever he came from, since he
obviously wasn't born here.

I would never use X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1409

he must have finally had his weekly psychotic episode by threatening his

Any word about the Complaint?
That Robert Morein should get what's coming to him.

have you been enjoying my posts in rec.audio.opinion, have you figured
out yet who may be correct about running inverters without a battery?
have you had trouble finding The Wal-Mart smart charger. enjoy

Not a problem. There are certain parts of headers that cannot be changed by
the user,

glad you think so

because they are set by the news server. You are a client of
inreach.com, and you live in the vicinity of Mount Shasta, California.

you think? really? what an usenet whiz you are. other trolls have been
much more accurate than you.

I do like the "in the vicinity" part, that's so vague you must be a
politician.

I'm sorry to hear that there's no action on your Complaint.
What's the Law comin to these days?

Law? actually it's more fun seeing if you can figure out what
posts/replys are legitimate or might be mine.

Be patient. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for them to tell you to **** off.
the voice of experience. is that what happened with Brian L. McCarty

Technically, I'm not forging anything.
My take is this: "no useful info" harassed me on alt.solar.photovoltaic.

I responded, and continue to respond, by making posts with the nom de guerre
"no useful info".
As "no useful info" has perhaps discovered, this is not, by the conventions
of usenet, a forgery. I am using neither his real name nor his email
address, nor have I tampered with the headers in any other way.
Consequently, his complaints by "no useful info" to my ISP and news provider
were unanswered.

I suggested to "no useful info" that we bury the hatchet,
http://groups.google.com/[email protected]&rnum=1

and he responded "just put an X in the center of your forehead"

"no useful info" is an antisemite, and into hate speech, as the below posts
reveal:

http://groups.google.com/[email protected]&rnum=2

http://groups.google.com/[email protected]&rnum=6

A word to "no useful info": If you post a message indicating you are
agreeable to a truce, I shall be pleased to leave your identity alone.
I have no particular interest in harassing you, except as a reaction to what
I perceive as extremely sarcastic, condescending, and belittling responses
to my posts -- responses that indeed questioned my right to post.
