10-inch-diameter speakers

That kind of money?? $40 for a pair too much??

I have 2 -10 inchers in my truck. I do pretty good with my stealth system in my Datsun
I have 4- 6 1/2 inchers hidden from sight. Sounds pretty good and pumps some bass also.
I spent over a thousand dollars when I did my 93 Dakota, and about 80 hours labor
getting it right. The trucks lound but not really a bass thumper.

For what it's worth, I replaced the two paper 6"x9" speakers in my '96
camry with $20 6x9 Wal-Mart DuraBrands (polypropylene cone). I was
actually considering buying some $40 Kenwood 6x9's from
crutchfield.com, but I was in a Wal-Mart, and decided to just return
them if they didn't sound nice.

They sound great! They're probably the best $20 I've ever spent on
audio in my life. I actually hear bass now!

Like my '200W' amplified speakers that run off a 9VDC 200mA wall wart?

Yeah, but that's "200 Whats?"! ;-)

Yeah, I thought the link I pasted was hard-wired for pages 2 and 3.

Upwards, but under the seats?

A few inches higher, like up the inconsiderate noisemaking punk's ass.

Thanks,

Oh ok. Tried it on a different computer, and I see it loads the first
page. (Must've set a cookie on my desktop. Naughty naughty!) It's on
"Page 2-3 of 4"... you have to click the blue "Next" button on the
upper-right, and it's the Elektra speaker box.

It sends me to a page that says, "We're sorry. No stores exist. Please try
again later" then has a text box where it wants my zip code.

Probably because I rejected the cookie. ;-)

Good Luck!

Which is more bullshit since there is no such thing as "RMS power".

P 6000W
I = --- = ------- = 500A
E 12V

And, from the engine, since 1HP = 746W,

6000W
P = --------- ~ 8HP
746W/HP

not counting losses.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

The speakers I were contemplating are in an enclosure. Here's a link:

http://pepboys.shoplocal.com/pepboy...oncode=PepBoys-060528&fsid=127935624643505866

It's the speaker box on the right page, near the top. Elektra speaker
box, $39.99

I'll try to remember to write down the model # of my Onkyo when I go
home for lunch...

Michael

It's an Onkyo TX-2500 Mk II.
From this ad, looks like it's only 35W per channel. (Didn't bother to
pull the receiver out to note the specs - lots of wires plugged into it
in the rear.)

Sounds nice though.

Including something I didn't notice earlier: "TOTAL IMPEDANCE: MORE
THAN 4 OHMS".

Besides the obvious, what does this mean? What are the hazards of
putting in Exactly 4 ohms?

Usually just overheats and shuts down, but sometimes self destructs.

Of interest is their reference to "RMS Power".

Maybe I am missing something, but to supply 6 kW of power, with 12 kW
peaks, a car would need an alternator approximately the size of a 5
gallon plastic bucket.

oh, you didn't get the memo ? you need to hull behind you

Actually it should really read 'total impedance *not less* than 4 ohms'.

Don't worry about being exact. Speaker impedance is nominal only and actually varies with frequency.

No can do... the receiver won't run *any* speakers unless *both* left
and right speaker are connected. (I wonder why they designed the
receiver that way...)

Does the receiver have connections for two sets of speakers? Is
there a speaker selector rotary dial on front (often ntegrated with a
power switch) or two pushbuttons that select speaker A or speaker B or
both? It's likely set on both, which likely put the speakers in
series, making two 8 ohm speakers into a 16 ohm load, vs. putting them
in parallel which would make a 4 ohm load.
But I'm sure I was missing the point of your reply. Are you saying the
sound might sound funny at higher volumes when powering a 4-ohm
speaker?

It might start sounding funny if the output transistors start
overheating.
