LED Strips Display driven from 555 / 4017 counter

Please take a quick look. I think I am close. I have done some prototyping with success. Did I miss anything?

LED Strips Display driven from 555 / 4017 counter

Hi, thank you all for the feedback. I am learning a lot on the process of building my first real circuit. I really appreciate all the responses.. Here is my schematic--first version. A couple of notes: 1. The LED strips, from what i understand can be connected directly to 12 volt...

LED Strips Display driven from 555 / 4017 counter

Ok. I am moving along with this project getting closer to a design. I am using this LED strip start http://amzn.com/B00EKEODA0 . It can be cut @ every third LED. However, I am planning on using approx 75 to 100 LED strip.. I assume this would bring the total amps down from the 2 amps ( for...

12V DC Power source for prototyping

Hi, would like to here some thoughts on using a power source. I am needing 12 VDC source for some of my prototyping. I have an old desktop pc that I am stripping parts from and decided to pull the power supply. I just wanted to make sure I am going about this the correct way in getting the 12V...

free cloud or open source schematic tool

Looking for a free or open source schematic tools. Notice a few cloud based tools but they have subscriptions. What are some recommendations? thanks

LED Strips Display driven from 555 / 4017 counter

I have been studying the 4093 and getting familiar with how it works. It is much easier than the 555. I do have a question though, what is the theory / concept on why unused gate inputs should be connected to ground if not used? thanks

LED Strips Display driven from 555 / 4017 counter

I see a few tutorial / explanations of Shmitt triggers out there. Do have a recommendation? this will be a new concept. thanks!

LED Strips Display driven from 555 / 4017 counter

Hi All, I am expanding my knowledge from 555 timers to something that is more interesting to look at ( also to get my kids more interested ). I am looking at leveraging a 4017 counter using a 555. I would like this to drive a LED strip ( 12v 2A ). The strip is 300 LED but will most likely use...

    Question in 555 timer circuit

Understand now.. I was also stuck on understanding the voltage and the fact it is the equal ( both compararators and capacitor in parallel) after the resistor ( resistor that is in series right before pin 6 ). The voltage is 0 ( since the capacitor is charging ) . Voltage will increase...

    Question in 555 timer circuit

Hi, I assume this might be a fundamental concept so hopefully I will understand with a brief explanation. I would like some more understanding of how the comparator works on pin 6 in the below schematic. The comparator on pin 6 will 'read' the voltage on the C1. I understand when C1 gets to a...

back into electronics as a hobby

HI all, My name is Mick. From the time I was 8, I have always been fascinated with electronics. I started out with the Radio Shack 50 in 1, 160 in 1 and 200 in 1 projects sets growing up. Was always fun to follow the instructions but never did really understand the theory. I ended up...
