You get a huge "Cust Level Discount"

Woo Hoo! :-D

I wanted a single 74HC259. Can I get one? Noooooooo

Would you order 10, or 25?

Both in stock (tick)
Both for delivery in 5 working days (tick)

So now they're going to be dispatched on the 6th working day. I wonder if they're going to air-freight them from half way around the world? (they've done that before, but now they send them to their local office rather than straight to the customer).

So I have to wait a week... I'm not in so much of a hurry.

I wonder if they actually will arrive by Friday?

As an interesting side note, their local office used to be about a 15 minute drive from here. Google tells me that since they closed it, it would take me 42 hours to get to the next closest one (hey, what's an extra 8000km to drive?)

I'd ask if anyone on this forum has one that they could sell or donate!

Before I had a good look at this I had assumed that the logic was LS TTL. My local hackerspace has more LS TTL chips than you can shake your fist at.

I may conduct a class there showing people how a 74HC259 can be a viable alternative to a 74HC595 in some cases. Even if they don't agree, they'll already have sunk their 40c investment! Mwahahahaha!

Have you considered the storage cost of the additional 15 parts?

It would occupy one drawer in my component storage system and there's usually space for 100 or so in each and I have a few spare drawers! I suspect @(*steve*) has a similar system?????

An empty drawer is seen as an excuse to purchase more bits!

You know you are "a valued customer" when you receive unsolicited free samples. It's been YEARS (decades even) since I've received any free samples. You used to be able to request free samples on the Texas Instruments website, but it's been awhile since I tried doing that... never hurts to ask though.

Same here Hop. Manufacturers used to contact me when they came out with a new device, asking me if I'd accept free samples from them. Business has sure changed.
*steve* You need to realize that the vendor needs to make his own empty drawer space for all the new devices coming out. The only way for them to do that, is to sell you as much of their old stock as they can, to free-up empty drawer space for their new wares. You should be more sensitive to their needs.

In the Past, I have received Numerous free Samples from TI, delivered to my address in Canada.
But I think they now Charge for Shipping.

I Believe their number is 1-512-434-1560

Thanks Chemelec.

Oooh, I found a package 70x125x680mm thrown at my front door. What could possibly be inside?

Inside the box (which was courier delivered) is some paper, a very large anti-static bag, and a single tube of IC's.

So Yep, they arrived by Friday. Not bad considering they came from the UK.

And the other 24 solved the problem of that empty drawer in your parts cabinet too!
