usb relay controller
Hi, new user here.
I've got an idea for a small project and I'm trying to figure something out. Basically I want the PC to control a relay to turn on an appliance. I've got a few options, among them include:
- RS232: Using serial to activate a relay, but then I would have to externally power the circuit
- USB: Would be ideal because provides a +5V supply and communication for the relay circuit, but it seems way more complex to just send a simple signal to the relay circuit
- Premade Relay Controllers: I'm trying to avoid this, just to learn a bit more on my own.
- RS232 for control, USB for power: Technically this should be easy, but I'd really like to just use 1 USB port for this task.
Anyone with USB interface experience have any advice?
I'll update as I learn more.
EDIT: got it working.. sweeeeet!!! <sarcasm>thanks for all the help!</sarcasm>
