they fall off when someone moves the splice around. Wire nuts are UL
approved only when the splice is twisted CW for a reason.

Actually, the UL approval is based on installing in accordance with
*manufacturer's directions*. So if the manufacturer says to not twist
the wires, that is how UL tests it and that is the only 'approved' method.

Of course if the manufacturer says twisting the wires is 'optional',
then UL tests it both ways and the approval is based on that.
