There are loads of infrared webcams being sold on ebay (from hong kong
mind you) but any standard webcam can pick up an image from within the
infrared spectrum...

Anyone experimented with making their own infrared camera?

What light sources did you use and were they strong enough to capture
an image between 3 and 20 feet away (1 to 7 metres)?

I was thinking about infrared LEDs.... Anyone know a UK (or EU) source
for strong IR LEDs?

Be an interesting project if it works given the infrared webcams on
ebay are around £30 on average (£50 in the shops..)

I think Vishay makes some very nice, high power IR LEDs. One series
peaks at about 880 nanometers wavelength (good camera sensitivity) and
one series peaks at about 940 nanometers (completely invisible ot the
human eye and a bit stranger images like some clothing looks somewhat
transparent).
