I've a Zenith VCR/DVD combo. VCR is on, I insert a tape, the machine
refuses to play, and shuts off and gives me an " ERR " message. The
DVD side of the machine works fine.

Am checking " http://repairfaq.ece.drexel.edu/sam/tshoot.htm " but I
wanted to get this posted in the hope I can get this fixed and finish
watching the 'Duchess of Duke Street' before the tape is due back at
the library.

Grab a flashlight and plastic tweezers.
Flip open the VCR door and peer into the mechanism.
Remove the errant label that has come off one of your tapes and stuck
itself to the mechanism.

Try your tape again and enjoy.

This cost me US $45.

Winston:

YOU are so SMART! <GGG>
It wasn't an 'errant label,' but a cigarette filter: how the heck
THAT got in there I will never know.
Thank you very, VERY much for responding to my query. (Forgive the
delayed response, Winston. I tried to reply several days ago but for
some reason Google Groups would not accept my input.)
