Tuning Fork Clock JECO.CO Japan SMITH CLOCK..

I have one of these but its very erratic for the movement to turn, Fork does vibrate and the drive
transistor is saturating, I also gave the mech a good clean.

This is the cheaper plastic gear mech..

I have a feeling that it gets demagnetized with use, as the tuning fork has magnetic ends riveted to
it..

Any clues..

JECO.CO Japan SMITH CLOCK..

Hi - If you haven't already solved the problem, as you have obviously been inside the mechanism, you may as well replace the electrolytic capacitor - the cylindrical aluminium one with the plastic cover. The internal resistance of these goes up with age (for a small one like this, they can often be useless after 10 years, and this is probably 3-4 times that age). If the internal resistance goes up, the tuning-fork swing will be reduced.
Regards,
Bob Yorston.

JECO.CO Tuning Fork Clocks

Hi. Just had to join up after seeing Bob Yorston's advice regarding a possible remedy for failure of the Jeco Co. tuning fork electronic clock movement. After many years, my personally invaluable Smiths (UK) marine wireless room clock (with Jeco tuning fork movement) went u/s. No amount of searching for UK repairers etc resulted in any success until I found this Forum a couple of days ago.

Following Bob's advice, I've replaced the 0.47 micro-farad, 50v. electrolytic capacitor with a 0.47 micro-farad, 63v., miniature 7mm radial electrolytic capacitor and now all is well. My grateful thanks to Bob and the Forum......
