Hello, I have been recently building a solid state Tesla coil similar to that of the “One Tesla kit” and I was wondering if the 1.5KE510CA TVS diode could be removed or perhaps replaced with a fast diode like the UF4007, would the circuit still be able to work without damaging the IGBTs and if not is there a another way to get around it?

When I look up soild state Tesla coil design I see many with no protection on the IGBT is this bad practice when switching inductive loads?

The TVS diode has a defined behaviour in the breakdown region. It should not be in use as a rectifier, and replacing it with one would be a bad idea.

It's a bit like replacing your steering wheel with the spare tire. They're both wheels, right?
