Whatever the next big IOT thing is, I doubt it will be connecting your door lock to the Internet:

Update gone wrong leaves 500 smart locks inoperable

Seriously, what kind of naive, trusting fool would allow access to his home to be controllable over the Internet???

Thought that was dumb concept but only not if you have extra key locks on your door

People out there like doing and spends money on dumb stuffs only because theyre trendy and easy

I'm waiting for an app that can open those little containers of leftovers in the fridge and smell them to see if they're still edible, so I will know what to buy while at the grocery.

(Yeah, I know, we have these things called "wives", but they are way too expensive!)

Sadly, more and more consumers are that kind of naive, trusting fool. Internet access to home alarm systems is becoming more popular every year. Much easier to circumvent a lock (like forcing a window open) than to circumvent an alarm system---until, of course, you link your system to the internet, where hackers can chip at it in relative safety.

Not that many people have the savvy to circumvent alarm systems, but lots of people know how to hack into your access over the internet. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time until some people discover how vulnerable they've made themselves.

(And btw, if you think you know how to circumvent alarm systems, PLEASE don't broadcast it in a public forum.)

IOT yes..
I am part of that youngster who would like to find the possibility and trendy market.

My final thought of IOT through out my research was synchronize things with your heart beats. Because according to my medical research heart beat can reveal so many emotions including fear/happyness/sadness/furiosity and such.

The Development of IOT indicates the fact human wants to make their "switch" to their device easily,

So synchronizing heartbeat with your device which create another phannominal input level can lead another market of the field,

I wished to get output from the input which is human emotion

And my suggestion would be light colors and recommandes music for it...

Wished to see other options from you gentlemen

Thank you

Jimmy,
I can see this kind of tech being a bit invasive. The main problem i see so far with iot devices is hackers. When they released the first wave of smart cars there was an incident with hackers gaining control of a whole fleet of vehicles. I can only imagine the HIPPA nightmare that would come from someone gaining access to someones medical state and ransoming the info. Or worst finding out how to control the mind through this tech haha. In all seriousness i think IOT has a lot of potential and i sure would like to see it happen, but we need more preemptive security. Once we can prevent hacks and ensure safe use i think we will see wonderful things happen

The same ones that would allow access to voting machines and nuclear power plants?

Bob
I think the age of living side by side with tech is coming like a tidal wave. I believe there will be a time to choose to either ride the wave or get washed away in it

Who do you think you are talking too? As a principal software engineer at Intel until I retired last year, I was quite on the leading edge of technology. I just don't think it wise to open up critical infrastructure to hackers in Kazakhstan.

yes, Its; really the regarding part of IOT that we have to concern about the hackings, regarding those IOT devices are controlled by the server.

although this is a different subject I believe,
I was just ahead of this problems, thinking about what wonderful things can be :)

pushing myself to think all the time.
but its hard to think of one..!

Wow Bob,
kudos for the one who reached the certaion level positions of engineering,

So may I ask question from your profession,
what do you personally think we can prevent the hackings from IOT servers?

since IOT need 3 elements which are

Smart Phone
-
IOT Controlling server (Application)
-
IOT devices.

what should be concerned primarly to prevent the risk of getting your life treathened?
or did I miss any imporntant elements from it?

appriciated for your time and professional thoughts.

I am not a security expert, my expertise is in compiler development.

But, I think the biggest problem with security is people. We are too lazy to take security seriously. I tend to use the same password everywhere for instance. I think biometrics or even embedded chips to uniqely identify ourselves is the way to go. But even that could likely be scammed.

This was by no means an attack. I apologize if it seemed that way. I only meant with technology moving this fast, its almost forcing its way into society. I just think we should be ready with safety nets and failsafes when someone comes in and unleashes artificially intelligent refrigerators and tvs into the world.

Dont we have the technology for retina scanning yet? I dont see retina scanning as invasive as implants

As far as ideas for cool futuristic ideas i think youtube is onto something. If your tv tracked what you watch and suggested movies and shows. That would certainly be cool. And if you got to rate shows.....im describing Netflix arent I ?

That exactly is my point, someday we will face the technology that gather all the data to analyse human character.

So if we can take more closer look of what can gather informations from inside (mental) we can be easily connected to the people we want

So my point of view of technology is to how to deliver things or how to make process easier to people and devices.

I think this is the entire goal of modern technology. To make life easier and more accessible
