Hi iv got a 6.5 kva Honda generator but when I plug a 1700 w chop saw in it stalls instantly ‘ I was told that it would run this saw easily but obviously not anyone know what size generator I should actually use as I often need to use power tools in remote areas . I’d be very grateful for some facts and figures please

You have to take account for start current. That wattage is probably a lot more than that the rated 1700W.

A 6.5kVA generator should power a 1700W saw no problems. Check the throttle regulator - possible vacuum leak.

How old is the generator, maybe sat around with fuel in it that gummed up the carb so it isn't running well under load?

Are you sure the chop saw motor itself doesn't have a problem?
