Sony CDX-705 Mobile CD Changer

I have in for repair this car 10-CD Changer. The problem reported is
skipping on small bumps in the road. I opened it and found that to
absorb shock, it uses four rubber dampers filled with some sort of heavy
grease. One of the dampers has come off it's mounting pin and leaked
the grease. I've cleaned the grease and the unit functions. The rubber
is not torn so it just needs to be put back together and refilled.
Does anyone know what type of grease or damping fluid this uses. and
about how much of it?

It's the high viscosity " kilopoise " type grease as far as I know - the
sort of stuff that's used in cassette door dampers. The question is, if the
containing boot is not split, how has the grease gotten out ? As far as I
can remember, there is usually no route in or out for the contents. Might be
best to just get a replacement suspension from Sony

It appears to be held in the boot by a pin which is riveted to the
chassis. It seems to have been pushed out, possibly by the extreme
temperature changes around here - 20s one day, 60's another day, etc.
Or maybe a hard sideways shock or something.

Do you know of asopurce for that grease?

I believe MCM and/or Parts Express used to stock it, but I just checked
their sites and can't find it now. My container looks exactly like the
bottle in the pic on the above page. I find that a small jeweler's flat
blade screwdriver works great for applying in tight spots. But the syringe
would no doubt be the best bet for filling items.

1 of all of my years of working in electronics I have never seen this 1
someone was into this unit. 2 you do not refill these. Order a new
damper. Also did you check the RF?

Order the part from tritronics.

1. I said the unit "came in to my shop" to be brief. It is true, but it
is MY CDX so no one has tampered with it.
2. The player has a good strong lock on the CDs when it is stationary,
or when I hold it in my hands and gently bump it around.
3. This is one of two units which are connected together to the same
head unit through a source selector, so I have the identical item to
compare. RF envelope is about the same, actually maybe a bit better on
this one. The only problem is this one does not handle harsh bumps as
well as the other. They are mounted side-by-side to a board which is
attached to the carpet in the trunk with a large sheet of velcro.

I have now substituted a damper from the second player, and drove to
work with it playing. I took the bumpiest route and it played well,
confirming that the problem is the damper.
Does someone have a service manual, and will be kind enough to pass
along a part number? Or... If I call someone like Fulton Radio, do you
think they can research this over the phone with me? (Asking here first
may prevent wasting their time)
