If you position the panel correctly it can act to self propell the mower
also. may work in the desert quite well were the laod will be lower.

Yes, it will mow that desert grass quite well :)

12v electric motor for cheap near = 6hp gas
yes I was allso thinking a bout this idear . I have a 4.5hp petrol
rotovaor with a wrecked eng (low compresion, ignition probs, carb probs)
since a new eng cost as much as a new rotovator .
my grandad once converted a push mower to batt with a starter motor .

Hi Everybody;

One of the projects I would like to build is a solar lawnmower. I
would find a fairly low power electric mower, then put a battery (yes,
it will be heavy) and an inverter on it, just to see if it could be
done. It would also be neet to say, "my lawnmower is solar powered",
like, how cool would that be. I would get alot of exercise and I could
think of it as performance art.

PS. My last artistic act was to shovel my sidewalks on December 26 in
a Santa siut.

Option 1:
Get a goat and put up a sign that is is running on that "solar powered
grass" :)

Option 2:
There are several cordless lawnmowers that run off a battery, so you can
skip the inverter.

You should be able to recharge it off solar panel(s)/change controller.
A little shed with the panel on the roof to hold the mower and charge it
would be nice.

Alternatively, a solar panel sun shade mounted to the mower to keep the sun
off your head while
you artistically curse at the top-heavy monster during mowing. But you
will still need to park it
for a few days to recharge since anything you mount is far to small to run
the mower directly....
